Cleaning up after Christmas (after the holidays)

12/27/2024

The holiday season is over, we’re embarking on the new year.

It’s time to get everything cleaned up and prepared for a fresh start, right?

The tree is still up, wrapping paper is everywhere, empty boxes and everyone is playing with their new things, but you know it all has to get cleaned up.

You have to find places for the new things, you have to undecorate the tree - I don’t think that’s a word! Undecorate? Put the tree into storage or dispose of it. Put the decorations away. And you’re tired!

You are not to do this on your own. You are the manager of your household and you are going to ask for help and you are going to delegate!

You want to be set up for lasting home organizing solutions, right?  In order to make that happen you’ll have to do something different than you’ve done before or what society tells us.

Instead of doing it all on your own year after year, you can draw a line in the sand this year and get others helping to put away all the holiday things so you can start the new year fresh. In this episode you’ll learn just how to get your family helping to get everything cleaned up.

How to get everything cleaned up

    1. First, Start by creating a quick plan of attack.
List out what needs to be done. Some items on the list would be to take ornaments off the tree, wrap and store so they do not get broken. Take the lights off the tree. Take the tree outside for disposal or take it apart and put it into storage bins. Take your gifts to your bedrooms. It’s kind of like a decluttering list. Everything needs to get put into it’s home or identified that it doesn’t have a home yet.
    2. Second, set a time when everyone is going to help.
The day, time and for how long. By setting a time this way and communicating it, everyone feels like there’s a start and end to the “pain” of having to clean things up. It may not all be done and you can tell them if it’s not all done, we’ll set another time later the same day or another day.
Another approach is to give each person a list of their own and tell them when it has to be done. This could work well with other kids and adults. I like the idea of everyone helping at the same time. Then it’s easier for you to manage the kids time and nobody feels like they’re the only one doing the tasks.
Repeat this step until all items are done.
    3. Third, celebrate. You can play a game or watch a movie. Be sure to thank everyone for helping.

Now you’ve gotten your house put back together. How will you keep it that way throughout the year?

You can really dive into getting your home organized and keeping it that way with an organizing checklist. This is a free download that you can get right now by going to www.homeorganizingforbeginners.com. The checklist gives you the 8 strategies to get off the hamster wheel of home organizing. That’s where you wind up organizing the same spaces over and over again. When you employ the 8 strategies you’re able to effectively get started, get organized and ultimately stay organized. Again, you can access the free checklist at www.homeorganizingforbeginngers.com.

Are you to the point where you just want someone to come into your home to get it clean and organized?

I get it. Daily life so easily has us feeling like we’re running around like chickens with their heads cut off. What if you could learn how to clean and organize your home in a truly effective and lasting way? In the online course Home Organizing for Beginners that is exactly what I teach you. It’s so important when cleaning and organizing your home to consider how you and your family live life each day. It’s a must to set yourself up for success with a home that you can whip back into shape anytime life gets out of control.

Home Organizing for Beginners will give you:

  • Confidence in your ability to organize your own home. Allow your new found confidence to show your children that they can be organized too. (even though they’ll fight you on it!)
  • Fool proof steps to creating a clean and organized home that you will be proud to welcome others into even when they stop in unannounced.
  • Time to spend how you choose. For me the extra time has been spent with the Lord. This has helped me bring true peace and joy into my home.
